Hello! I’m Gemma, one half of The Copper Kitchen. I am a qualified secondary school food and catering teacher. Teaching hospitality and carrying out events with the students I teach is when I am at my happiest. I love the pressure of food preparation and then seeing the customers’ reactions when served.
Food and baking is in my DNA; my Great Grandad was a master baker and owned a bakery and tea room in the East End of London in the 1920s. My dad’s cousin, also a master baker, owned a bakery and shops in Northampton. I have always dreamt of owning my own catering and cake business carrying on the family passion and so The Copper Kitchen has been established.
Why the name? My grandad’s nickname was Copper Kettle - he was the village policeman and his surname was Kettle. It seemed fitting to have a little bit of that heritage in our name as we continue to carry the family torch of cake baking and catering.
The other half of The Copper Kitchen is Chris, my husband. He is the one that has helped turn the dream into a reality, plus keeps the finances and technical side of the business in shape.
